Journalism

I spent the first decade of my career reporting from around the world for national magazines and newspapers.

I've told the stories of women whose sons died crossing the Mediterranean, how air pollution seeps into people’s houses and stunts lung growth, and what the closure of gay bars in London means for queer identity for BBC Radio 4.

After doing an MA in Journalism at City, University of London, I began my career at the Guardian writing about startups, entrepreneurs and tech. Then onto Newsweek as their Asia staff writer, covering North Korea, China, Abe, South China Sea disputes, the environment, rapid urbanisation, and the Rohingya crisis. I appeared on TV and radio talking politics, tech, and foreign diplomacy.  I have also worked as a travel writer and editor, and worked on news desks at national broadsheets including the Sunday Times , Independent, and The i. I stood in for the foreign editor at The i (whenever he was off) for the best part of two years.

I love numbers and all things innovation, which has lead me to writing for the Financial Times’ Financial Advisor and City AM, covering mergers and acquisitions, and blockchain. Some of my favourite  articles have appeared in Newsweek, National Geographic Traveler, Business Traveler, Wanderlust, the BBC, the Guardian, Grazia, Devex, Positive News, Broadly, Refinery 29, The Sunday Times, and CNN.

Side-note: I  once took the train from London to Singapore (read more here) and so have an obscure yet in-depth knowledge of Central Asia railway timetabling.
